You may know us best for our extraordinary wickers and delicious Scotch Eggs, but the story of Fortnum's has a slightly more surprising origin. Back in the 1700s, Queen Anne insisted on having new candles every day, and her entrepreneurial footman - William Fortnum - had the idea of selling the spare wax. By 1707, William Fortnum's enlightened sideline had melted down into enough to leave royal service and start a business with his landlord Hugh Mason. Today, our collection includes artisan candles, diffusers and accessories from only the finest perfumiers.
