Fortnum's Pfalz Spätburgunder, Weingut Ludi Neiss, 75cl

As the name implies, Spätburgunder ripens late (spät) and was brought to Germany from Burgundy in the 4th Century, effectively making this a German Pinot Noir.

Our Spätburgunder is produced by Weingut Ludi Neiss from 28ha of estate vineyards near Kindenheim, a small village in the Pfalz region of west Germany. The cool regional temperatures lead to an extended maturing period on the vines which in turn enables the grapes to gain extra complexity.

The resulting cuvée is wonderfully medium-bodied with soft ripe cherry fruit and spice on the mid palate, a velvety texture and soft smooth tannins on the finish. This elegant red will make a great pairing for both white and red meats.
